Ring of Shock: Synagogue Explosion Rocks Liege

An explosion struck a synagogue in the Belgian city of Liege early Monday, representing what authorities have labeled as an antisemitic attack. While the incident caused significant damage, no injuries were reported.

The explosion occurred around 4 a.m., shattering the synagogue's windows and those of a building across the street, according to public broadcaster RTBF. Although the cause of the explosion remains unconfirmed, prosecutors have transferred the case to federal authorities, who typically handle terrorism or organized crime investigations.

Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quintin condemned the blast as a "despicable antisemitic act" directly targeting Belgium's Jewish community. Eitan Bergman, Vice-President of the Coordinating Committee of Jewish Organizations in Belgium, expressed shock and sadness over the attack, emphasizing the emotional toll on Liege's small yet vibrant Jewish community.
