In a gesture of goodwill during Ramadan, Afghanistan has released three Pakistani soldiers captured during intense cross-border clashes last October, according to government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid.
The soldiers were handed over to a Saudi delegation that helped mediate between the two countries. The release comes amid ongoing tensions that sparked from deadly clashes, which resulted in multiple casualties on both sides.
While a Qatar-brokered ceasefire has temporarily calmed tensions, ongoing peace talks have yet to yield a lasting solution. Pakistan has not yet commented on the release.
