A tragic incident unfolded in northeastern Spain where a fire in an apartment building claimed the lives of five individuals, while five others sustained injuries. The regional emergency services disclosed that the fire erupted in the storage room of a five-story apartment block located in Manlleu, a town north of Barcelona.
According to Catalonia's regional authorities, the victims, all young people, were unable to escape from the attic storage area due to undetermined reasons. The cause of the blaze remains unknown, and Catalan police are conducting an investigation to ascertain if there was any foul play involved.
Salvador Illa, Catalonia's regional leader, expressed condolences to the bereaved families, stating his deep sorrow over the tragic event. Among those injured, four were later discharged from hospitals, while one did not require hospitalization. The identities of the deceased are set to be released after further investigation.
