Historic Tensions Persist: The Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque Dispute in Court

The intricate legal battle over the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque site in Madhya Pradesh, which holds religious significance for both Hindus and Muslims, faced a setback on Monday as a planned hearing was deferred due to a statewide lawyers' strike, according to a litigant present at the court.

The disputed 11th-century complex, viewed as sacred by Hindus and Muslims, remains under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Following a Supreme Court directive, the Madhya Pradesh High Court was scheduled to unseal a scientific survey report by ASI, a key document in the case.

Representatives from both communities, including Ashish Goyal from the Hindu Front for Justice, and Abdul Samad of the Maulana Kamaluddin Welfare Society, appeared in person. They highlighted the need for a fair decision before addressing historic grievances, as the court postponed proceedings to February 18.
