Defence Transformation: India's Modernisation Leap

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the fruits of a decade-long effort in defence reforms during the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, asserting India's global stature compels it to stay perpetually prepared for security challenges. Speaking to PTI, Modi noted that the progress necessitates continuous modernization of the defence sector.

Highlighting the substantial Rs 7.85 lakh crore defence allocation in the 2026-27 Union Budget—a 15% increase over the previous budget—Modi articulated the government's unwavering commitment since day one to bolstering the nation's defence forces. He described the budget as a historic step towards equipping the armed forces with domestic innovation.

Modi emphasized the modernisation and self-reliance missions that have driven the NDA government for 11 years, noting the distinct rise in indigenous defence production and exports. The prime minister took a veiled swipe at previous administrations for alleged mismanagement in defence affairs, validating the present regime's achievements in fulfilling long-standing demands like OROP.
