Impeachment Complaints Against President Marcos Jr: A Congressional Probe

The Philippine House justice committee announced on Wednesday that two impeachment complaints against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr were found lacking in substance. The complaints, which alleged corruption and constitutional violations, have now been dismissed by the committee, which is largely comprised of Marcos allies.

The discussion lasted three days, after which the committee overwhelmingly decided the complaints lacked merit. The next step will be a plenary vote in the House of Representatives, which could either uphold the committee's decision or override it. Marcos, who is halfway through his tenure, maintains his innocence of any wrongdoing.

The allegations against Marcos include allowing his predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte, to face trial at the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes during the 'war on drugs,' and misuse of public funds. If impeached, Marcos would follow former President Estrada as only the second Philippine leader to undergo such an event.
