Riverbank Rites: Clashes Erupt Over Cremation Location

A clash over a cremation site by the Narmada river in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district turned violent, injuring ten individuals on Monday. The dispute erupted when villagers from Sulgaon objected to a cremation being conducted 200 meters from the riverbank, at an undesignated spot.
According to Pankaj Tiwari, officer at Mandleshwar police station, the family of Mohan Patidar was performing last rites for his grandmother when the altercation commenced. The matter escalated to stone pelting, leaving a police constable and a village kotwar among the injured.
Authorities, including police teams from Mandleshwar, Maheshwar, and Kasrawad, managed to restore order to the scene. Cases have been registered against 44 individuals as part of the ongoing investigation to resolve the tensions.
