Parliamentary Showdown: Rijiju and Opposition Clash Over Speech Rights

In a charged parliamentary session, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju emphasized the necessity for Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to comply with parliamentary protocols during his speeches. Responding to Gandhi's prior correspondence, Rijiju clarified that the rules of the house apply universally, preventing arbitrary discourse by any member.

The contention arose after Rahul Gandhi expressed dissatisfaction in a letter to Speaker Om Birla, having been allegedly blocked from voicing concerns over national security during the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. Addressing the media, Rijiju stated, "We, too, wish to hear from him, but it must be within the regulations. Others deserve the opportunity to speak as well."

Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh accused the BJP-led government of actively hindering Gandhi and suppressing opposition voices. The tensions peaked with the suspension of eight MPs, who then protested outside Parliament. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to respond to the President's address amid the escalating parliamentary discord.
