In a recent turn of events, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar backed Rahul Gandhi's attempt to cite an unpublished memoir by former Army chief MM Naravane in the Lok Sabha. The memoir, 'Four Stars of Destiny,' touches on the Indo-China stand-off of 2020, adding layers to the ongoing parliamentary debate.
The uproar was triggered when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP members opposed Gandhi's reference to the book, questioning its authenticity and accusing him of misleading the House. Pawar argued that Gandhi's right to speak should have been respected, especially in matters concerning national security.
The unpublished memoir allegedly criticizes Prime Minister Modi's handling of the 2020 conflict, prompting Gandhi to highlight its existence despite government denial. The controversy intensifies as Gandhi lodges a formal protest with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, claiming a democratic lapse.
