IOS SAGAR, an initiative focused on fostering unity and security among Indian Ocean Region (IOR) nations, is set to become a key annual event, as announced by a senior naval official. Scheduled to commence next March, this initiative highlights India's strategic commitment to maritime security and regional cooperation.
During an interaction at the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue, Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti revealed plans to extend the program towards Southeast Asia. IOS SAGAR underscores India’s ambition as a 'preferred security partner' and embodies a broader vision for collective maritime security involving crew members from various nations.
The initiative involves the Indian Navy's Offshore Patrol Vessel, INS Sunayna, and has already seen extensive deployment across the IOR, visiting major ports and reinforcing India's regional maritime alliances. The IPRD event convenes global maritime experts, aiming to foster actionable insights and strengthen regional ties.
