In a major crackdown, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has lodged a new FIR against Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who is already in custody over bribery charges. The officer is now under scrutiny for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his income.
The development follows Bhullar's arrest on October 16, alongside a middleman, for purportedly accepting a Rs 5 lakh bribe from a scrap dealer. Subsequent searches of his Chandigarh residence unveiled Rs 7.36 crore in cash and valuables, including jewellery and luxury watches, along with extensive property ownership in various districts.
The investigation reveals Bhullar and his family hold several high-end vehicles and substantial bank balances, yet his declared annual income was recorded at Rs 45.95 lakh. The authorities are probing the source of these vast assets and whether Bhullar's family played a role in accumulating this wealth.
