Real Madrid's Quest for Justice: UEFA Faces Legal Setback
Real Madrid seeks compensation from UEFA after the Regional Court of Madrid dismissed appeals regarding the Super League. The court and earlier European Court of Justice rulings found UEFA and FIFA contravened EU law by opposing a parallel European competition. The decision aids Real's claim for damages.
Real Madrid is demanding compensation from UEFA following a decisive ruling by the Regional Court of Madrid. The court dismissed appeals made by UEFA, the Spanish football federation (RFEF), and LaLiga concerning the controversial Super League.
The club was among 12 European teams that supported the breakaway competition in 2021, but it quickly faltered due to fan and governmental backlash. Although UEFA initially stopped the Super League's formation, a 2023 European Court of Justice ruling determined that both UEFA and FIFA breached EU laws.
In a recent statement, Real Madrid expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, highlighting it confirms UEFA's violation of EU competition laws regarding the Super League. This verdict enables the club to pursue significant damages from the football governing body.
