Congress Accuses Modi Government of Reviving Manusmriti Principles

The Congress party has sharply criticized the Modi government's recent move, accusing it of reviving the ancient principles of the Manusmriti through its new draft Shram Shakti policy.

According to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, the policy reflects the values of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) rather than those of the Indian Constitution. Ramesh expressed concerns that this policy signifies a return to outdated governance frameworks.

The newly released draft policy, available for public feedback, cites ancient texts such as the Manusmriti as foundational to India's labor governance, predating contemporary labor laws. It emphasizes rajadharma, the ruler's duty to ensure justice and protect workers.
