Rodrigo Duterte, the former president of the Philippines, has formally appealed against the International Criminal Court's decision to continue proceedings over alleged crimes committed during his tenure.
Duterte, who led the country from 2016 to 2022, faces accusations linked to numerous deaths during his controversial war on drugs. His defense argues that his arrest in The Hague is unlawful, emphasizing that the ICC lacks jurisdiction as the Philippines withdrew from the court in 2019.
Duterte's legal team is pressing for his immediate release, citing cognitive decline as a factor rendering him unfit for trial. A verdict on his health status is anticipated in mid-November.
