Britain has reported a significant increase in arrests for illegal working, with a 63% rise this year compared to last, according to government statements on Tuesday. The crackdown has primarily focused on industries such as food delivery, beauty salons, and car washes.
Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood emphasized the government's commitment to deterring illegal migration, associating illegal work with illegal entry. More than 8,000 migrants were arrested in the past year, with over 1,050 foreign nationals removed from the UK.
The government's strategy includes potential digital identity cards for workers, a move accompanied by stronger collaboration with major food delivery firms to prevent illegal workers. These efforts reflect public concerns and growing pressures within the political landscape.
