In response to the Election Commission's announcement of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel expressed skepticism about the Centre's commitment to identifying illegal immigrants. Speaking on Monday, Baghel questioned the efficacy of the ongoing efforts, especially with the spotlight on regions like Chhattisgarh.

The Election Commission of India has embarked on a comprehensive exercise to update electoral rolls across 12 States and Union Territories. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar revealed that the final voter list would be published on February 7, 2026. The project covers areas including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, and others.

This rigorous process, mandated to ensure an up-to-date electoral roll, will commence with printing and training from October 28 to November 3, followed by an Enumeration Phase until December 4. The Draft Electoral Rolls are slated for publication on December 9, with a subsequent period allocated for claims and objections. The Election Commission has integrated Aadhaar into its document list following directives from the Supreme Court.
