In an act of remarkable honesty, a woman identified as Selvamani discovered a sack containing Rs 17.5 lakh on a street in the city and handed it over to authorities on Monday.
The unexpected find occurred when Selvamani and her daughter, a Class 12 student, were returning home from a hotel and noticed the sack in the middle of the road. A passing bike tore the sack, revealing the cash inside.
Selvamani, who works as a maidservant, immediately reported the discovery to patrolling police officers. The Vilakkuthoon Police Station has since registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
