In a significant legal move, Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad has approached the Supreme Court seeking the release of his passport. This comes after his contentious social media posts on Operation Sindoor led to his arrest in May.
The Supreme Court, with Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi presiding, will consider Mahmudabad's plea on November 18. During an earlier hearing, the court had granted interim bail to the professor, with the condition that he surrender his passport.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Mahmudabad, argued for the unblocking of his passport, pointing out that the state had not objected. This case has garnered attention from political and academic communities, with many condemning the arrest as a stifling of free speech.
