The Centre has reported revenue of Rs 377 crore from the disposal of scrap, clearing 130 lakh square feet of office space, as part of a special cleanliness campaign according to an official statement released on Friday.
Initiated on October 2, the special campaign 5.0 is led by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances and runs until October 31. Its progress was monitored by Secretary V Srinivas during the 8th nodal officers meeting on Friday, attended by over 200 senior officials from 84 ministries and departments. By October 24, the national swachhata campaign had covered 4.95 lakh sites, converted 130.54 lakh sq ft office space for productive use, raised Rs 377.8 crore through scrap disposal, addressed 5.45 lakh public grievances, and weeded out 7.25 lakh files, as confirmed by the Personnel Ministry.
The initiative showcases innovative practices like the Ministry of Railways' 'Amrit Samvaad' for passenger feedback, 'Dak Chaupals' by the Department of Post for citizen engagement, and cleanliness incentives on national highways. As the campaign nears conclusion, ministries are urged to maintain momentum toward achieving total coverage by October 31, 2025.
