Call for Ceasefire: Gargash Pushes for Sudanese Peace Transition

Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic adviser to the President of the United Arab Emirates, has called for a swift ceasefire in Sudan, emphasizing the need for a civilian transition rather than a military-led government.

During an interview at the Reuters NEXT Gulf Summit in Abu Dhabi, Gargash expressed frustration over Sudan's refusal to permit the UAE's humanitarian involvement, comparable to its efforts in Gaza. He reiterated the UAE's readiness to boost these efforts once allowed.

The conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has plunged the nation into a dire humanitarian crisis. The al-Fashir region remains the focal point of these clashes, with RSF seeking to establish a parallel government there. Meanwhile, the Sudanese accuse the UAE of supplying RSF with weapons and fighters, an allegation denied by the UAE. Consequently, relations have worsened, leading to an effective embargo by the UAE on Sudanese gold, further impacting Sudan's struggling economy.
