Call for Action: U.S. Senators Demand Swift Response to Sudan Crisis
U.S. Senators are urging President Trump’s administration to respond decisively after Sudan's RSF seized territory and attacked civilians. Calls for designating RSF as a terrorist group emerged amid concerns over UAE's alleged involvement. The conflict has caused massive violence and humanitarian crises.
United States Senators from both Republican and Democratic parties are urging President Donald Trump's administration to take strong action following the capture of new Sudanese territories by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Reports have surfaced alleging that the RSF is targeting civilians during their military advances.
Republican Senator Jim Risch, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is advocating for the RSF to be classified as a foreign terrorist organization. Risch emphasized the alleged atrocities committed by the RSF, considering them as deliberate acts of terror against the Sudanese populace.
Echoing his sentiment, Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen expressed probable support for the designation and criticized the United Arab Emirates for allegedly supporting the RSF. The war, originating from a power struggle in April 2023, has led to extensive violence, famine, and millions being displaced, creating a dire humanitarian crisis.
