In a decisive move, the United States on Thursday announced a naval blockade specifically targeting Iranian ports and coastline, excluding the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Air Force Gen. Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, clarified the blockade, effective against ships of all nationalities entering or departing Iranian ports.
The blockade initiative extends into Iran’s territorial seas and international waters. Gen. Caine emphasized the readiness of the joint force to enforce these measures and pursue any Iranian or dark fleet vessels found aiding Iran, including those involved in transporting Iranian oil illicitly.
War Secretary Pete Hegseth underscored the US military's unparalleled capabilities, asserting dominance in the region with only a fraction of US naval strength. Hegseth suggested diplomatic negotiations as a viable path but warned of severe military consequences unless Iran alters its stance.
