India and Tajikistan convened for the 5th Round of Foreign Office Consultations in Dushanbe, overseen by senior officials from both countries, as part of ongoing efforts to fortify bilateral relations. The gathering was co-chaired by Ambassador Sibi George, Secretary (West), representing India, and Idibek Kalandar, Tajikistan's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The consultations covered a wide range of topics including political, defence, security, trade, and cultural collaborations. Discussions extended to multilateral cooperation and global issues of shared interest. Notably, India's Secretary (West) met with Tajikistan's Foreign Minister, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, to explore avenues to enhance their partnership further.
In addition, the visit included engagement with the local Indian community, underlining their vital role in bilateral relations. Three 'India Corners' were inaugurated in educational institutions across Tajikistan, and Indian cultural and sporting contributions underscore India's commitment to deepening ties with Tajikistan, in line with its 'Extended Neighbourhood' policy.
