India's External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, addressed the resilience of India in overcoming recent global shocks during a speech at IIM Raipur's convocation ceremony. His remarks alluded to the ongoing military conflict in West Asia, emphasizing India's ability to manage both domestic and international challenges effectively.
Jaishankar noted the significant impact of the West Asian crisis, which began with the US and Israel's attack on Iran in February, affecting global fuel supplies and creating a hydrocarbon shortage. He called for building strong national capabilities as a strategy to de-risk and enhance leverage amid a shifting global order.
He stressed the importance of adapting to changes in technology, energy, and military capabilities, urging nations to secure themselves in a volatile environment through hedging, de-risking, and diversification. Jaishankar also identified the COVID pandemic, conflicts, and climate change as major challenges requiring more inclusive growth and decisive leadership.
