In a critical evaluation of international diplomacy in West Asia, Colonel Douglas MacGregor (Retd) has openly dismissed Pakistan's efforts to mediate rising tensions in the region. During an interview with ANI, MacGregor questioned the reliability of Pakistan as a diplomatic intermediary amid the volatile situation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. He expressed skepticism over Islamabad's capacity to function as an unbiased broker in the conflict.

MacGregor did not hold back in his critique, stating, "I don't think it's going to lead anywhere. Again, the Israelis don't trust anything that comes out of Pakistan. Why should they? The Pakis have promised to nuke them. What a great strategic partner." He further reflected on Western strategic policies, arguing that countries like China and Russia are often unfairly categorized as adversarial despite their apparent interest in global stability.

He highlighted the failures of Western perception, stating, "The Chinese were serious...there is a complete failure in the West to understand anything Russia or China does is considered evil." He also criticized the current US leadership under President Donald Trump, condemning their threatening rhetoric towards Iran as "the theatre of the absurd," which he believes diminishes the United States' global image.
