An Iranian ballistic missile aimed at central Israel has been reportedly equipped with a cluster bomb warhead, according to footage analyzed by the Times of Israel. This type of warhead disperses submunitions over a wide radius, causing extensive danger. The use of such munitions, forbidden by the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, is not prohibited for countries like Israel and Iran as they are not signatories.
The missile strikes have led to multiple impact sites throughout the central region. Emergency services have responded swiftly, but surprisingly, no immediate injuries have been reported, although infrastructure damage is evident. One of the missile's submunitions reportedly hit and damaged a road, as per the Times of Israel.
Authorities have secured the impacted areas, with police actively managing multiple locations to ensure safety. Despite the visible property damage, medical teams have confirmed no casualties so far in the strikes. This attack marks a worrying shift in the ordnance tactics deployed, raising alarms among local authorities who remain on scene to gauge and control the situation.
Unfortunately, in other central regions, two fatalities have occurred due to a ballistic missile attack, with Iranian forces reportedly responsible according to the Magen David Adom (MDA) and CNN. The victims were a man and a woman, both succumbing to severe shrapnel injuries.
Furthermore, in Bnei Brak, a suburb north of Tel Aviv, another person suffered a minor injury due to missile shrapnel as reported by the MDA and CNN. In response, Israel's Home Front Command stressed adherence to safety alerts. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the impacted zones for search and aid operations.
On a military note, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed on X that personnel, including Home Front Command forces, are operational at these sites. As the dust settles, civilians have been cautiously advised that they are now permitted to leave protected areas, although vigilance is strongly encouraged. Meanwhile, the IDF's airstrikes have targeted Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, as part of its ongoing Operation "Roaring Lion," striking launchers and operatives to protect Israeli territory.
On a broader scale, the conflict has drawn U.S. intervention. The Department of War, executing orders under President Trump, has claimed significant damage to Iran's military through "Operation Epic Fury." U.S. Navy Admiral Brad Cooper assured continued focus on neutralizing threats from Iran's ballistic missile arsenal, drones, and naval challenges, maintaining considerable air dominance.
The escalation included targeted U.S. strikes using 5,000-pound deep penetrator munitions on fortified Iranian missile sites near the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command articulated that Iran's anti-ship missiles endangered international shipping routes, justifying the defensive action. (ANI)
