India and Tanzania Enhance Defence Ties at Joint Meeting in Zanzibar

In Zanzibar, the fourth edition of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting between India and Tanzania was convened starting February 2. The ministries from both nations assessed ongoing defence collaborations and deliberated on a vast spectrum of potential partnerships, including military training, service-to-service cooperation, maritime security, and defence industry association, according to a press statement by the Ministry of Defence released on Tuesday.
The statement elaborated that discussions also ventured into innovative sectors such as counter-terrorism, peacekeeping training, and capacity building in specialized areas like Electronic Warfare (EW), Cyber Warfare, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). These discussions were aimed at amplifying the robust bilateral defence affiliations. Additionally, military medicine was pinpointed as a prospective new domain for cooperation. The meeting concluded with agreements to initiate collaboration between their Air Forces, thus enhancing the existing synergy between their naval and army forces.
Leading the Indian delegation was Joint Secretary (Defence Cooperation) Amitabh Prasad, comprised of prominent figures from the Department of Defence and the Indian Defence Forces. Ibrahim Mhona, Chief of Operations and Training at TPDF, headed the Tanzanian delegation. The High Commissioner of India to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, also participated in this pivotal meeting.
India and Tanzania maintain an amicable, strategic partnership governed by a comprehensive five-year defence roadmap. Both nations expressed optimism in expanding their cooperative efforts for mutual benefit. (ANI)
