An Indian national has been found guilty of abusive sexual contact and assault onboard an aircraft. Varun Arora, aged 38, has been residing in the United States without lawful status.

During a flight from Rhode Island International Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in August 2024, Arora was accused of groping a female passenger while pretending to be asleep wearing a sleep mask. Despite the victim’s efforts to push his hand away, Arora continued with the act.

Arora faces a potential prison sentence of up to two years. A federal district court judge will deliver the sentencing decision, taking into account the US Sentencing Guidelines and various statutory factors.
