Set against the breathtaking scenery of Tawang Monastery and the Eastern Himalayas' cloud-kissed valleys, the Tawang Marathon 3.0 captivated participants and spectators alike on Friday. Perched nearly 10,000 feet above sea level, the event transformed the region into a hub of endurance and cultural pride.
Flagged off by Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh of the Gajraj Corps, this year's marathon underscored the significance of fitness and national integration on the Himalayan frontier. The marathon offered four challenges: a full 42 km run, a half marathon of 21 km, and additional races of 10 km and 5 km, attracting over 6,200 runners including 1,200 women and girls, as well as international participants from Kenya.
Runners navigated the rugged terrain of the Himalayas, fueled by crowd support and the majestic views of snow-capped peaks and vibrant prayer flags. Locals noted the event's role in boosting tourism and economic support in Tawang. The marathon's theme, "Clean Tawang, Green Tawang," reflected a commitment to sustainability, uniting civilians, military and local entities in a celebration of health and harmony.
