Francesca Orsini, a prominent Hindi scholar, faced deportation from India after immigration officials at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport denied her entry on the grounds of visa violations. The government confirmed that Orsini, renowned for her contributions to Hindi literature, had been previously blacklisted for breaching her tourist visa conditions.
Sources familiar with the situation indicated that the blacklisting occurred in March 2025 after Orsini engaged in activities that were inconsistent with her tourist visa stipulations. Under Indian immigration laws, tourist visa holders are strictly forbidden from undertaking professional work or any form of employment, a rule Orsini allegedly neglected during her last visit.
This incident underscores the global practice of blacklisting individuals who fail to comply with visa terms, a measure meant to maintain the integrity of immigration protocols. Despite holding a valid five-year e-visa, Orsini was deported immediately upon her arrival from Hong Kong, following an academic conference in China.
