Surgical Mix-Up: Tragic Death at BHU Hospital

A 71-year-old woman has died following an alleged mix-up at Banaras Hindu University's trauma centre. The patient, Radhika Devi, required spinal tumour surgery but reportedly received a thigh operation instead due to a name confusion with another patient.

The family of Radhika Devi alleges that doctors conducted the wrong surgery on March 7. This purported medical error led to further complications, ultimately resulting in Devi's death on March 27. Her grandson, Mrityunjay Pal, claims the incorrect procedure was due to a name mix-up with an 82-year-old woman named Radhika Singh who needed a leg operation.

The Institute of Medical Sciences Director M N Shankhwar has confirmed receiving a complaint and has established a four-member committee to investigate. The hospital promises further action following the committee's findings.
