Britain's medicines regulator announced a significant enforcement action on Friday, marking the largest global seizure of trafficked weight-loss medicines. Authorities dismantled a factory that was producing thousands of illegal weight-loss injections.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) reported the confiscation of 2,000 pens labeled as containing tirzepatide and retatrutide—drugs not approved for weight loss in the UK—along with tens of thousands of empty pens and raw chemicals.
This illegal operation in central England represents the first factory of its kind found in the UK. Health Minister Wes Streeting described the bust as a major victory against criminal enterprises endangering public health with unsafe, unregulated weight-loss jabs.
