Supporters of Trinamool Congress and the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AUJP) clashed violently in West Bengal on Thursday, causing significant unrest. Armed with lathis, the groups attacked each other, pelted stones, and damaged roadside vehicles.
The violence followed AUJP founder Humayun Kabir's visit to the Nowda area, where crude bombs had been hurled the previous night. Kabir organized a sit-in protest, accusing the police of unjustly lathi-charging his supporters and demanded action against the officer involved, as well as against TMC workers.
The incident comes as West Bengal faces a heated election battle between the ruling TMC and BJP, contending for 294 Assembly seats. Security forces were deployed to quell the tension. The Election Commission is investigating the clash's circumstances.
