The tragic suicide of Nithin Raj at Ancharakandi Dental College in Kannur has drawn widespread attention. The National Dental Commission is seeking explanations from the college amid accusations of caste-based discrimination, following a complaint by ABVP State Secretary Yadhu Krishnan.
Health Minister Veena George expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as 'shocking and deeply painful'. She assured the public of holding those responsible accountable with firm legal actions and emphasized that caste-based harassment is unacceptable in Kerala.
Congress MP K. Suresh labeled the incident an 'institutional murder,' raising concerns of caste discrimination, which he states have compromised Kerala's dignity. Police investigations are underway, with charges of abetment to suicide and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act applied to the case.
