On Friday, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan commemorated the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, highlighting his contributions to the nation. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also paid homage, marking the centenary as a time to recommit to Chandra Shekhar’s vision of a prosperous and just India.
In a heartfelt post, Modi extolled Chandra Shekhar as a mass leader endowed with courage and profound democratic values. He reflected on their interactions, stressing the simplicity and clarity Chandra Shekhar brought to public life. Modi urged young Indians to delve into Chandra Shekhar’s thoughts and efforts for national progress.
Chandra Shekhar, born on April 17, 1927, served as India’s eighth Prime Minister between November 1990 and June 1991. His political journey began in his student days, characterized by idealism and revolutionary fervor, leading him to prominent roles in the Socialist Movement and the Praja Socialist Party.
