Supreme Court Dismisses Anil Ambani's Pleas in Banking Fraud Case
The Supreme Court has dismissed Anil Ambani's pleas challenging the Bombay High Court order that allows proceedings to classify accounts of him and Reliance Communications as fraud. The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected industrialist Anil Ambani's attempts to halt proceedings initiated by banks to classify his and Reliance Communications' accounts as fraudulent. This came after the Bombay High Court's division bench allowed the continuation of these proceedings.
Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, clarified that they saw no reason to interfere with the High Court's decision. However, they encouraged Ambani to continue his appeal with the high court's single judge bench against the banks' notices.
The issue at hand involves the alleged siphoning of thousands of crores in public money. Senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Shyam Divan, representing Ambani, argued that the ongoing legal action could severely damage their clients' reputations. Meanwhile, the apex court stressed the importance of a thorough investigation.
