Tensions Rise: US-Iran Economic and Naval Confrontations

Esmail Baghaei, Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson, has fiercely criticized recent economic threats posed by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Through a social media post, Baghaei condemned the threats as forms of 'economic terrorism' and 'state-sponsored extortion.'

Meanwhile, China's UN envoy, Ambassador Fu Cong, has cautioned against the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, labeling it 'dangerous' and 'irresponsible.' Fu emphasized the waterway's significance for international navigation and urged Iran to ensure its openness. The ambassador warned that the blockade could exacerbate existing tensions.

In Lebanon, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam praised an American-facilitated ceasefire with Israel. However, Salam also expressed condolences for those who suffered during previous conflicts. These developments occur as the US military publishes an expansive list of contraband goods originating from Iran, further straining US-Iran relations.
