Taragiri: A Symbol of India's Naval Prowess and Self-Reliance

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to commission the indigenously built stealth frigate Taragiri on April 3, marking a significant enhancement in India's maritime capabilities. The event, to be held at the naval dockyard, will witness the presence of senior naval officers and other dignitaries.
According to an official release from the Eastern Naval Command, Taragiri is India’s pride, symbolizing self-reliance in defense manufacturing. This 6,670-tonne warship, a part of Project 17A built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, exemplifies advanced design with reduced radar cross-section for enhanced stealth operations.
The frigate, featuring over 75% indigenous content, supports a domestic defense ecosystem with contributions from over 200 MSMEs. It is equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry and systems, designed for both combat and humanitarian roles, underscoring the Indian Navy's commitment to becoming a self-reliant force.
