A significant shortfall in the Indian government's transfer of cess collections to designated funds has been highlighted by an RJD Rajya Sabha member, citing a report from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). The report reveals lapses over five decades amounting to Rs 3.69 lakh crore untransferred by FY 2023-24.
Instances of these lapses span across multiple sectors, with Rs 37,537 crore remaining untransferred in health and education from 2018 to 2024. Additionally, the Oil Industry Development Board faced shortfalls accumulating to Rs 2.95 crore since 1974 and the National Highways Fund showing a deficit of Rs 5,968.1 crore.
The RJD MP criticized discrepancies in official accounts, with government reports showing a gap between claimed and actual transfers. He called for urgent correction, emphasizing the necessity of transparent fund allocation for public welfare and questioning the steps taken to address these lapses.
