Tata Power Restarts Mundra Plant After Nine-Month Hiatus

Tata Power announced the resumption of operations at its Mundra Plant, which boasts an installed capacity of 4,150 MW, after a nearly nine-month hiatus. The plant, located in Kutch, Gujarat, had been shut down from July 2025, leading to significant operational losses for the company.

As part of efforts to restart, Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd (CGPL), an arm of Tata Power, inked supplementary power purchase agreements with several states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. These agreements are expected to bolster power supply and mitigate potential electricity shortages.

In response to anticipated peak demand of 270 GW, the Indian government has called for full capacity operations at crucial power plants like Mundra, emphasizing optimal power availability to meet rising electricity needs in the coming months.
