DMK's Annadurai Declares TN Elections as 'Tamil Nadu vs Delhi'

In a recent statement, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai criticized AIADMK's Edappadi Palaniswami for his recent meeting with Amit Shah, labeling him as Shah's 'yes man'. The upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections are set to be a battle of regional dominance versus central influence, with significant stakes for both major coalitions.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai on Friday criticized AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami following his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. Annadurai accused Palaniswami of acting as a 'remote-controlled yes man' for Shah, suggesting that the meeting could damage AIADMK's prospects in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. This assertion aligns with Chief Minister MK Stalin's remarks, portraying the coming electoral battle as a showdown between Tamil Nadu's regional identity and central dominance.

In a conversation with ANI, Annadurai emphasized, "This incident will be detrimental for AIADMK in the election." He added, "Our Chief Minister, MK Stalin, has described this election as Tamil Nadu vs Delhi and Tamil Nadu vs BJP. It is evident from the alliance dynamics. This is not merely DMK versus AIADMK; Edappadi Palaniswami appears subservient to Amit Shah's dictates," Annadurai stated.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has slated the Tamil Nadu polls for April 23 in a single phase, with vote counting set for May 4. The Model Code of Conduct is now in effect as the election process for the 234-member assembly begins; the current term concludes on May 10. The primary contest is anticipated between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with emerging players including actor-turned-politician Vijay debuting his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in this electoral race. In the 2021 elections, DMK achieved 133 seats against AIADMK's 66, with Congress securing 18 seats, amidst a voter turnout of 76.6%.
