China Seeks Stability in Gulf Amid Energy Market Turmoil
China urges an end to Gulf conflicts and promotes waterway safety while cooperating with Southeast Asia on energy shortages. As global energy uncertainty rises, China hopes to strengthen ties with Southeast Asia, viewing the crisis as an opportunity for new energy relationships and emphasizing renewable energy's importance.
China has called for an immediate cessation of conflict in the Gulf, emphasizing the need for undisturbed safety in key waterways. The nation is also prepared to collaborate with Southeast Asia to tackle energy shortages, especially as recent turmoil sends shockwaves through oil markets.
Amid the U.S.-Israeli confrontations with Iran, China aims to present itself as a stable ally, cautious of the global energy market's volatility. China's actions include a domestic focus, marked by its recent ban on certain fuel exports and fertilisers to safeguard its internal market. The crisis thus opens potential opportunities for China to enhance its influence and foster healthy energy relations.
According to Wang Jin from the Beijing Club for International Dialogue, the ongoing situation underscores the reliability of renewable energy, offering Beijing an avenue to expand its leadership in the green energy domain. China is keen on forging stable and positive energy partnerships across borders, emphasizing this during recent dialogues with officials from Southeast Asia, including the Philippines.
