India's Power Preparedness Amid Growing Energy Demands

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal expressed confidence in India's readiness to meet a projected peak power demand of 270 GW this summer. His remarks emphasized India's strategic measures amidst the current West Asia crisis, anticipating a rise in the use of electric appliances and vehicles.

During the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, Lal highlighted the country's consistent focus on peak power needs. Despite initial forecasts, past peak demands have not reached anticipated levels due to varying weather conditions, but the government remains vigilant for the upcoming season.

Looking ahead, Lal pointed out the expected increase in power demand, driven by advancements in AI, data infrastructure, and electric vehicles. India plans to complete a 900 GW transmission line by 2034, positioning its power network among the world's strongest.
