The Delhi High Court is urgently addressing two petitions calling for police security in the Uttam Nagar area during the upcoming Eid festival, following heightened fears of violence after recent communal tensions. The applications were filed in response to inadequate action taken by authorities despite warnings of potential unrest.

One petition reported that requests had been submitted to the Delhi Police for preventive measures, yet no steps have been implemented. Concerns have been amplified by the murder of a 26-year-old man during Holi earlier this month, which has fueled fears of further violence. These matters are set for a hearing today.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL), brought forward by the Association for the Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) through advocates M Huzaifa and Shahrukh Alam, seeks directives for the Delhi Police and local administration to avert communal disorders. The plea outlines previous violence and provocations in the area, including the killing of a man on March 4, which spiraled into a community conflict with inflammatory content being widely shared.

As per the PIL, certain gatherings have aired intentions to disrupt Eid festivities, instilling fear among locals. It cites vandalism, mob assaults, and commercial closures due to security anxieties. Moreover, the plea criticizes the authorities for neglecting the Supreme Court's orders to proactively fight hate speech, insisting that FIRs are filed without awaiting complaints.

The petitioners demand immediate government intervention to protect residents' lives and properties, maintain order, and uphold constitutional rights. (ANI)
