Sri Lanka's government has sanctioned an emergency procurement of 300,000 metric tons of coal from an Indian company, Taranjot Resources Pvt Ltd, as announced in a cabinet statement on Tuesday.
This decision comes at a critical time for the island nation, which is facing severe energy constraints and has resorted to rationing fuel.
The fuel reserves are under strain due to supply issues stemming from the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, which has further complicated global supply chains.
