Madurai Airport Triumphs: Union Cabinet Declares International Status
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the elevation of Madurai Airport to international status. This landmark move aims to improve regional connectivity and foster economic growth in Tamil Nadu, enhancing Madurai's prospects as a key regional hub.

In a crucial development for Tamil Nadu, the Union Cabinet, under the stewardship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has granted Madurai Airport international airport status. This decision is expected to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic advancement in southern Tamil Nadu, catering to the aspirations of its residents.
Announcing the move, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted Madurai's importance alongside Chennai and Coimbatore, asserting that international status for the airport would significantly change Madurai's and Tamil Nadu’s developmental trajectory. Recognized as a strategic portal to Southern Tamil Nadu, Madurai Airport plays a pivotal role in boosting both tourism and pilgrimage activities.
Furthermore, the Union Cabinet also sanctioned the extension and financial augmentation of the Jal Jeevan Mission. The initiative's budget has been increased to Rs. 8.69 lakh crore, with a central government contribution of Rs. 3.59 lakh crore, focusing on sustainable water supply solutions in rural regions.
