In response to the escalating conflict in West Asia, India has restructured its natural gas allocations to guarantee a steady supply of LPG and CNG for households and transportation. The oil ministry's gazette notification mandates shifting available resources from non-priority sectors to meet the soaring demand in these critical areas.
The conflict has caused a substantial supply disruption, affecting approximately 30% of India's gas imports, predominantly from the Middle East. With crucial movements through the Strait of Hormuz stalled, the reallocation is crucial to maintaining the country's energy stability.
Meeting the primary needs of LPG, CNG, and piped gas manufacturers, the new priority list impacts existing contracts, but aims to restore normalcy once geopolitical tensions subside. The initiative also includes increasing local natural gas production to bridge supply gaps and avert energy shortages.
