The Indian government has allocated Rs 88.74 crore towards advertising the GST Bachat Utsav, a move aimed at easing the financial burden on consumers by reducing tax rates on a wide range of goods. The reductions took effect on September 22, 2025, following a decision by the GST Council.
The tax cuts, agreed upon during the 56th GST Council meeting, affect approximately 375 products. From kitchen staples to electronic items, the financial relief extends to medicines, equipment, and automobiles. The government has termed this initiative as the GST savings festival.
To ensure the impacts are fully realized at the consumer end, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs is closely monitoring commodity prices. Additionally, the government conducted meetings with trade associations and amplified awareness through media campaigns, encouraging consumers to report discrepancies or issues via the National Consumer Helpline.
