Empowering Women Through Sports: Rajouri Celebrates International Women's Day 2026

The District Administration of Rajouri, alongside various organizations, commemorated International Women's Day 2026 with a vibrant series of sporting events under the ASMITA League. The initiative aimed to boost women's empowerment and participation in fitness, including diverse activities and awareness programs to foster a culture of equality and empowerment.

The District Administration of Rajouri, in collaboration with MY Bharat, Sports Authority of India, and Khelo India Centres, marked International Women’s Day 2026 with a fervent celebration of sports and fitness events under the ASMITA League at District Police Lines Rajouri. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, Tejinder Singh, and SSP Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwar, commended the vibrant involvement of women and girls in the festivities.

This event sought to advance women's empowerment and encourage their participation in sports and fitness. Numerous competitions, such as tug of war, fun games, and races across 100, 200, and 400 metres, took place at the venue, drawing participants of all ages, grouped into categories below 13, 13 to 18, and above 18 years.

Deputy Commissioner Sharma emphasized the significance of crafting platforms that empower women and propel them towards active involvement in sports, fitness, and societal growth. A special focus was on the wider dissemination of government schemes and services, for which departments set up stalls to spread awareness. A health camp ensured participants received medical check-ups and consultations.

The Social Welfare Department promoted sports participation by distributing sports items to girls from various hostels, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative. A skill centre for Gojri cap-making was inaugurated for girls, and ASHA workers were recognized for their contributions to girl child welfare under the BBBP scheme.

The celebration concluded with accolades for women achievers across fields, as well as women officers from the administration and police departments. Key officials present included Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Chander Prakash, Deputy Director Employment Mohd Nawaz, and other notable attendees.
