In a significant stride toward urban transformation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation and inaugurated mega redevelopment projects worth Rs 33,500 crore in Delhi.
Earlier, he visited Sarojini Nagar to hand over residence keys to women allottees, highlighting the government's focus on empowerment.
The initiative, targeting seven aging government colonies, employs a self-financing model, eliminating public spending and aiming to address housing shortages among government workers.
The project plans to convert structurally unsafe low-rise buildings into modern high-rise complexes, offering over 21,000 new residential units along with enhanced infrastructure.
Officials anticipate that monetizing a portion of the land will generate significant revenue, exceeding the redevelopment costs, thereby providing a fiscal surplus.
